More Information
  • This building is part of the Lake-Franklin Group of buildings. A nearby plaque describes them as "This rare grouping of post-Fire buildings is the best reminder of the wholesale district, an area integral to the city's former role as the world's largest market for grain, lumber, livestock, and provisions. The buildings exhibit such features of early-Victorian architecture as cast-iron columns, arched openings, and incised stonework. Early occupants included a leather dealer, sandstone company, steam heating company, corner saloon, and manufacgturers of mittens, hats, and iron and woodworking machinery."
  • February 26, 1997: This building was named a Chicago Landmark.
