Tucked away in a lonely corner of Grant Park is one of the city's great war memorials. General John A. Logan is depicted on horseback rallying his troops during the Civil War. Logan was also a congressman and a senator.

This statue by Augustus Saint-Guadens and Alexander Phimister is given a prominent place atop a small artificial knoll near Ninth Street. Unfortunately, it elevates the statue out of pedestrian sight lines and it ends up obscured behind trees most of the year. It's worth seeking out, though as a quiet place to watch the city go by.

Notes
  • Sculptor: Augustus Saint-Guadens

The sword missing or vandalized from the monument should be restored. Photos of the monument with the sword are available.
