Quick Facts
Timeline
  • 2003: During the Tall Ships Festival three of the HMS Bounty's 115-foot-tall masts were damaged when they hit the bridge.
  • December 2005: 36-year-old Richard Dorsay was arrested for living inside the bridge. He had a space heater and TV hooked into the bridge's electrical system. He learned to strap his belongings down and ride out the bridge's openings and closings. Dorsay claimed to local media that he lived inside the bridge for three years. The city of Chicago said that is unlikely because the bridge is supposed to undergo periodic inspections.
