A residential tower that was long anticipated. The podium was developed first and populated with a badly needed grocery store and a coffee shop before the tower began to rise above it.

The completed tower is in the shape of two convex curves with the residential space in between. The facade is blue glass, which is a nice change for the western portion of this neighborhood, which is dominated by stone-clad towers which suck up the available light rather than share it.

Quick Facts
Timeline
  • September 21, 2006 - A Tribune Company security guard sees three people parachute from one of this building's construction cranes and land in the plaza between Tribune Tower and the NBC Tower. By the time police arrive, the trio is long gone.
  • September 29, 2006 - At 4:30am, three people parachute from the construction crane an estimated 380 feet to the plaza between the Tribune Tower and the NBC Tower. While NBC's security misses it, the cameras mounted around Tribune Tower catch the action and the getaway in a Porsche SUV.

Your Thoughts

There are two comments.

I like this building a lot. The modernist design blends in with the River East Complex, while the setback tower blends in with the NBC Tower minus the spire on top. Back in 2003, this was planned to be a Hilton Hotel on top of a Parking Garage. Half of that plan worked with the Parking Garage, but in 2005 was planned to be a condo tower. The condo tower was approved in 2006, and was complete with a neat glass tower in 2007.

I adore this building. The more I stare at it the better it looks, The blue glass is sumptuous and adds a air of luxury to the design. The clean lines and perfect gentle curves and symmetry really make this a winner for me. Love it.
