There are two comments.

Apparently 217 initially was identical to 215 next door, built as 3 identical Italianate rowhouses in 1868. In 1892-3, 217 was extensively remodled into its current configuration by additions on the front and the rear. After Mrs. Gibson passed away the house was aquired by her former care-taker. It had was split into 3 (or more) seperate appartments with a full kitchen and full bath on each of the 3 main floors. The current owners aquired it in 2004 and de-converted it for single family use. The large boarded up window toward the rear of the 2nd floor was originally a bay that stuck out 4-5 feet over the alley. It was damaged by a truck in the 1940s-50s and never rebuilt. You can see the bay in some old photographs. Anyone with more information on the history of the house please share any information.

j c gibson & wife florence lived alone in 213, 215, & 217 cullerton. jc had been raised in calumet ave then his mother acquired 217. jc did boiler work and tried to invent numerous things if use. i think his father while doing portrate work did photographing of the 1893 fair. our family operated a business at 2218 calumet. in 1943 we had the house at 2011 prairie. when we sold 2011, it and 2013 were the only single family homes left on prairie.
