300 South Wacker is another one of those brown buildings that came along in the middle of the 20th century and mocked the Chicago River. But at least this one has some architectural merit. The building’s form appears as a tall shaft of concrete upon which wings of black glass offices have been hung. The result allows most of the building’s mechanical functions to be centralized and maximizes valuable office space on the outer flanks. Not a bad compromise. The building might benefit from something to break up or otherwise make the blank concrete façade more attractive, but that might be a bit of nit-picking on our part.
